Karim Khan - Chairman & Founder
Email: karim@shadowgirlsacademy.org
Karim Khan was born in Hunza’s northern region of Shimshal, right in the heart of the Karakoram mountain range. In 2005 he was offered the rare opportunity to travel to France where he studied tourism and French affairs at the Catholic Institute of Paris.
During his time there, Karim Khan took to heart the negative light in which women in his own country were portrayed. This encouraged him to return to his homeland in northern Pakistan and work exclusively for women’s rights.
"Two years ago I was studying in Paris. Nearly every time the western media showed a program about the discrimination of women in Pakistan, my professor and classmates would debate with me about this hot topic. I realized—thousands of kilometers away from home—the plight of women in our country. It suddenly clicked in my mind to return to the remote villages of Hunza to help the young women of the area."
Karim Khan consequently founded Shadow Girls Academy for young girls in Aliabad, Hunza in order to provide young women in the mountainous regions a chance to continue their secondary education out of their villages in a safe and peaceful environment.

In 2008, Hussn Bibi devoted two months to work as a research consultant for the World Life Society in the tumultuous neighboring country of Afghanistan. One year later, she was granted permission to leave her teaching positions in order to oversee the education and daily activities of the young women at Shadow Girls Academy.

During one of her many journeys through the region, she met Karim Khan who shared his hope to build a school that would offer girls in northern Pakistan a safe environment in which to study and mold their future. She consequently helped found Shadow Girls Academy and resides in a house near the school for half of each year.
